The project involves the seismic reinforcement of a bank building situated in a seismic zone. To address this ongoing threat, many buildings in the area are undergoing seismic upgrades to withstand potential earthquake damage and ensure life safety.

Following a rigorous selection process by the design institute and the project owner, Horse’s renowned high-strength carbon fiber reinforcement system was chosen. The project utilized over 1,000 square meters of advanced carbon fiber materials.

Advantages of carbon fiber for seismic retrofitting
1) High strength and high elastic modulus; enhances ductility to prevent brittle failure
2) Triple seismic reinforcement: shear resistance, flexural resistance, and confinement
3) Does not alter structural stiffness distribution, avoiding torsional damage during earthquakes
4) Simple installation and short construction period
5) Excellent fatigue resistance, suitable for cyclic seismic loading

Installation Process

Before installing the carbon fiber seismic reinforcement system, construction crews thoroughly cleaned the existing structural elements to remove dust and debris. The process involved applying a primer, leveling uneven surfaces, and then carefully bonding the resin-impregnated carbon fiber fabric to the structural members.

Utilizing carbon fiber technology not only enhances the building's seismic resilience but also offers significant advantages over traditional steel reinforcement methods in terms of cost, downtime, and environmental impact. Furthermore, as the carbon fiber weighs only 300g per square meter, this ultra-lightweight material adds negligible weight to the already substantial concrete structure. In contrast, steel reinforcement would significantly increase the structural load, potentially introducing new risks.
